Siete meses después de proponer el plan económico para la solución del conflicto palestino/israelí, la Administración Trump presentó un plan político. La idea sería crear un estado palestino en toda la franja de Gaza y el 70% de Cisjordania. Habrá conexiones entre diferentes partes del estado palestino a través de carreteras, puentes y túneles (incluida una conexión entre Cisjordania y Gaza). Los lugares sagrados permanecerían bajo el control de Israel, pero los musulmanes tendrán libre acceso a la mezquita de Al Aksa. Israel podrá mantener sus asentamientos sin desmantelarlos, pero no podrá expandirlos territorialmente en los próximos cuatro años, que sería el período en que palestinos e israelíes negociarían el status final. Esta vez, con el apoyo de los estados árabes, la esperanza es que los palestinos sean persuadidos para negociar y poner fin a un conflicto que ha desgastado a los israelíes, los estadounidenses, a los árabes y a los palestinos mismos.
