Cuando llegué a España, en el verano de 1970, hace 50 años, miraba con cierta perplejidad la institución monárquica. Me parecía una cosa que olía a viejo, a naftalina. Venía de una tradición republicana que no podía concebir la existencia de las dinastías. Sin embargo, al poco tiempo de vivir en el país advertí que si había alguna nación que requería la Corona era, precisamente, ésta.
El Presidente Álvaro Uribe Vélez ha tenido el rol mas destacado en la denuncia abierta y la lucha efectiva contra el castrochavismo y sus operaciones de narcotráfico, guerrilla, terrorismo e intervención. No solo ha defendido a Colombia, defendió a las Américas. Ha asestado duros golpes como el bombardeo en Angostura, cuando Rafael Correa había convertido a Ecuador en narcoestado parte del sistema liderado por Castro y Chávez.
La mayoría de la población acepta el valor de la ciencia y la tecnología en procura de bienestar, salud y prosperidad. Pero al mismo tiempo desconfía de los peligros de una sociedad tecnificada y de las consecuencias indeseables del desarrollo tecnológico.

Ortega’s Sandinista dictatorship never left power in Nicaragua. In 1990, the dictator was removed but not the dictatorship, because it kept its infrastructure, protected the “fat cow” by guaranteeing legal protection to the criminal usurpation of property by members of the dictatorship, it granted impunity to the corruption of the dictator and members of his criminal group, it kept control of his Army -that was never the Country’s Army- and it stayed as part of the political system, simulating democracy -as a guarantee for impunity- until it once more had a chance to regain the helm of power and reinstate the dictator.
Once left-wing administrations were elected those governments would impose the Foro de Sao Paulo agenda. In some cases, such as Venezuela, Nicaragua and to some extent Bolivia and Ecuador, democracy was reduced to fiction by means of dismantling checks and balances.
