“The takeover of political parties by the Venezuelan regime is the sign that a complex process of phagocytosis has ended and thus we have in front of us a new and different political entity that does not correspond to the definition of nation state or colony. ” “Venezuela has become a deviant state that has lost its defining properties to alien entities that have penetrated its body, sucked out its spirit and filled the cocoon with an organism that pursues other interests and sustains other values.” There will certainly be elections. Once elected, they will become the new leadership and will swear loyalty to those that anointed them . These , of course are the Cuban Gerontocracy and  organized  crime.. Venezuela will then become the first country in the hemisphere to experience an Anschluss in this century.

Conozco a Carlos Alberto Montaner desde el año 1987 en Guatemala, cuando fue invitado por la Cámara de Comercio de ese país a dar una conferencia. Desde entonces hemos mantenido una amistad entre correos electrónicos, presentaciones de libros y encuentros en diversos países en pro del periodismo libre y la búsqueda de la libertad para Cuba y el resto del Continente. Recientemente, entre mi nuevo exilio en Miami y el coronavirus, he terminado de leer sus memorias sobre lo acontecido en estas últimas décadas en esta feroz batalla entre el aberrante comunismo y la democracia y sus constantes amenazas, entre la estupidez y el raciocinio. Pero además del hilo personal, estas célebres memorias cotejan con precisión dialéctica la narración de hechos sociopolíticos no solo de Cuba, sino también de la extinta URSS, España, Alemania, del fin de la Guerra Fría y de otros notables acontecimientos que viajan por la pluma de este muy leído periodista, también condecorado en 2006 con la Orden Rubén Darío de manos del ex presidente Enrique Bolaños.

Teleworking and Telelearning are here to stay, even under these precarious current conditions. The return to the “new normal” will imply a higher proportion of work from home for executives and workers and a shift in the educational system oriented perhaps more towards what they call “inversion of terms”; do homework at school, with the assistance of “teacher-coaches” and learn at home via Google, Wikipedia, Kahn Academy, Cursera, etc. This is already being used somehow in some countries. There is no need to have to reinvent wheels. In the pandemic this experiment was a failure because countries were not prepared. But the system is in place and it is time to refine it.

La verdad “oficial” no sirve para nada

No tiene sentido revisar la historia. En esta etapa de estatuas derribadas, incluso la del pobre Colón, un navegante que murió hace 500 años, y cóleras traídas de los cabellos, vale la pena revisar lo que ha sucedido en España. La derecha oficialmente olvidaba los miles de crímenes cometidos en Paracuellos del Jarama, y la izquierda no invocaba los miles de fusilamientos cometidos en la plaza de toros de Badajoz por las fuerzas nacionalistas. Lo trascendente era pasar la página y dejar a la sociedad civil examinar los hechos. Cosa que hicieron sin tregua y sin consecuencias penales en los diarios y revistas, en las editoriales y en el cine, porque había una absoluta libertad de prensa, pero no se estableció una “verdad oficial” porque eso era destapar el avispero y era, además, inútil. Cada generación trae con ella una visión diferente del pasado.

In Bolivia, the dictator was ousted but not the dictatorship and there is neither transition, nor democracy. To end the dictatorship and regain democracy, we must go back to the “rule of law” with the Republic of Bolivia. The Bolivian peoples’ mandate to the Interim President is THE TRANSITION TO DEMOCRACY and such transition starts by ceasing the dictatorship’s usurper legal constitutional framework and going back to the REPUBLIC OF BOLIVIA.  This is how the dictatorial state ends.  Until such a time and way, the “Rule of Law” is regained, the government is but the continuation of the dictatorial regime because it acts under the rules of the dictatorship and elections will be nothing more that another act of the “vote-catching dictatorship”.   

Should citizenship be a birthright?

A just government relies on a social contract freely entered into by free citizens. Thus, the scope and authority of that social contract extends only to those citizens that have agreed to be bound by the provisions of the contract. This is the essence of citizenship.  So, as the argument goes, a social contract where anyone can join in defiance of the community of existing members is no social contract at all. Birthright citizenship is inherently self-contradictory.

The Land of the Free?

In short,  Transnational Organized Crime is slowly and silently taking over  the US. This seems to me to be a greater menace to democratic institutions than the police. It would thus follow that we concentrate in devising ways to curtail their profits as wisely counseled many moons ago by Professor Milton Friedman.  But I am afraid I sustain a very unpopular and minority vision of our problems.

Un gobierno justo se basa en un contrato social libremente aceptado por ciudadanos libres. Consecuentemente, el alcance y autoridad de tal contrato social cubre solamente a esos ciudadanos que han aceptado subordinarse a las estipulaciones del contrato. Esta es la esencia de la ciudadanía. Entonces, se razona, un contrato social donde cualquiera puede agregarse desafiando a la comunidad de miembros existentes no es un contrato social válido. La ciudadanía por nacimiento es inherentemente auto-contradictoria.
